Advancing Teacher Leadership

The New York Teacher Leadership Summit is a two-day summit designed to promote and develop teacher-led initiatives across the New York region. Modeled after the successful federal Teach to Lead Summit, Teach to Lead New York will:

  1. Spotlight and support selective group of teacher-led initiatives across the NY metropolitan region;
  2. Provide teacher-led teams hands on training to refine their program models, identify supports, and communicate their initiatives to key stakeholders
  3. Promote teacher leadership among key local systems level stakeholders including superintendents, principals and national and local partners engaged to advise and support teacher-led teams to refine innovative proposals;

The New York Summit will be held on Friday, June 17th over two-days for 20 teacher-led teams selected by peers through an application process that will span the New York metropolitan region. The summit will include superintendents and partner organizations that will support teacher-led teams to refine their program/proposal designs and advocate for their initiatives locally.

This Summit is being planned in collaboration with a set of key local and national stakeholders and partners, including the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE), the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), the New York City United Federation of Teachers (UFT), the US Department of Education, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
